HIDDEN HERITAGE - KITE OVER LUCKNOW
The capital city of india’s most populous state, formerly the focal point of Awadh, a city known for its distinct culture – Lucknow is a place filled with architectural memories of its past. However, visitors usually tend to focus on the Bara Imambara complex, the Rumi Darwaza, the residency and leave.
Hidden heritage art’s ‘Kite Over Lucknow’ seeks to visually capture much more of the iconic city’s built heritage into a single water colour. The tombs, mosques, gateways, towers, the river, the memories…all of this in a modern-day built-up area. Heritage being gradually swallowed up by urban sprawl.
To be able to showcase several sites of the city into one canvas, we have taken some creative liberties but perhaps the painting is the better for that. ‘Kite Over Lucknow’ has been created by the brilliant Shashank Gautam, a graduate of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), working with Hidden Heritage founder Arjun Kumar.
